There’s been a lot of work recently on our roads and we know this has caused disruption to some journey times.

But prevention is better than cure and that’s why we have used a new treatment on many of our major routes.

This is a quick and efficient way to help slow deterioration and keep local roads in a better condition for longer. This innovative preservative coating will extend the life of key routes, reduce future maintenance costs and minimise disruption over time.

The treatment applies a protective layer that seals the surface against water, helping delay the need for more disruptive and expensive repairs. Once the coating has dried, road markings are reinstated and the road reopened.

All this work was completed in October at night using temporary road closures.

Over six miles of road were treated on the following sites:

Portishead – A369 Wyndham Way (Sheepway Roundabout to Station Road)
Long Ashton – A4174 South Bristol Link and A370 Long Ashton Bypass
Winscombe and Sandford – sections of the A368 and A38
Churchill – A38 New Road
Langford – A38 (Touts Garage to Langford Road)
Weston-super-Mare – multiple sections of the A370 including Marine Parade and Uphill Road North.

In the last year we have also fixed 8,600 potholes – an increase of 2,000 on the year before.

Over 20 miles of road are also due to be resurfaced in the 2025/26 financial year assisted by a new sophisticated approach to condition surveying.

All this is part of our commitment to safeguard our road network – delivering for you.
