There are two major free bus travel offers running in North Somerset throughout December and early January.

Free travel will support families during the festive season, reduce congestion at a busy time of year and encourage more people to try public transport for their everyday journeys.

Free Christmas travel on the X10 bus until Wednesday 24 December

Between Friday 5 December and Wednesday 24 December, all fares on the X10 route will be completely waived. No tickets or passes are required, you can simply hop on and enjoy the journey at no cost.

The X10 provides direct links from Yatton Station through Clevedon, Portishead, Cribbs Causeway, Filton College, and Southmead Hospital, offering convenient access to shops, work, education, and healthcare.

The festive free-travel period gives residents the chance to try the route, save money and leave the car at home during the Christmas rush.

Kids go free this Christmas – Saturday 20 December to Sunday 4 January

Adding to the festive cheer, children aged five to 15 across Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire will once again be able to travel for free on buses during the Christmas holiday.

The summer rollout of Kids Go Free demonstrated its value. More than 910,000 free journeys were made across the area, saving families almost £1 million.

Local high streets and attractions benefited too, with strong boosts in footfall and spending across the region. The coming festive period is expected to bring similar benefits for local businesses and visitor destinations.

The scheme is funded through the £13.5 million Bus Grant secured by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority from the Department for Transport.

Travel offers form part of wider work to make bus travel more reliable, affordable, and attractive under the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). Ongoing improvements include:

  • keeping fares low
  • working closely with operators to improve reliability
  • upgrading 150 bus stops and shelters
  • creating new transport hubs with comfortable seating and real time information displays
  • introducing priority measures at congestion hotspots to speed up bus journeys.
