Some garden waste services were suspended last year and the frequency of collections reduced due to continuing Covid pressures and the shortage of HGV drivers.
We’ve written to garden waste customers to apologise for the inconvenience this caused.
To compensate for the disruption, a reduced subscription rate of £40 will be available for 2022-23, a £10 reduction on last year’s rate.
Also, the 2021-22 service was due to finish at the end of March but is now being extended until Friday 17 June.
This extra time will compensate those who decide not to renew.
We’re working with North Somerset Environment Company to do everything we can to make sure garden waste collections resume in full in April and avoid further interruptions.
If you’re a garden waste customer, you don’t need to re-register for the service until mid-May. We’ll email or write to you again before the end of this month with more details.
Garden waste will continue to be collected until customers renew. Current permits should be left in place on garden waste containers.
The frequency of garden waste collections will be every four weeks until Friday 8 April.
From Monday 11 April, they will return to every two weeks, in line with the usual pattern of garden waste collections.
Time to get composting
Composting is the most environmentally friendly and cheapest way of dealing with garden waste.
National Compost Week is now on and to celebrate we’re showcasing local success stories from our composting champions on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Composting at home means you are producing nutrient-rich compost which you can then use to grow your own plants and vegetables.
Pass on your composting skills
Could you be a volunteer master composter, teaching friends, neighbours and local people how to compost?
We’re recruiting people who can attend events, give talks, write newsletters or use social media to encourage more people to compost.
Email the team on gardenwaste@n-somerset.gov.uk if you’d like to join in or call 01934 888 802.
