Christmas lights will soon be sparkling in towns across North Somerset.
Visit a switch-on event, pick up a treat at a late night market, get your skates on and more…
- A 30ft Christmas tree will be illuminated and festive music will be playing on The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare during the charity Light Switch-on on Thursday 24 November, in aid of Weston Hospicecare. The event starts at 5pm and tickets cost £6, including rides for the evening and live music from Lipinski.
- Nailsea’s Christmas lights will be switched on at the Crown Glass Shopping Centre on Friday 25 November. Carols and singing from 5pm and switch-on at 6pm.
- See bright blooms and pick up some treats from local traders at the Clevedon Flower Show Christmas Fair, from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 26 November, at Princes Hall in Clevedon.
- Kick off your festive shopping at Christmas Fayre in Nailsea on Saturday 26 November. There will be festive food and drink, children’s activities, and craft stalls, from 10am to 3pm at Holy Trinity Church and the Tithe Barn.
- Free mince pies will be handed out during Weston’s Christmas lights switch-on, from 5pm on Saturday 26 November in the Italian Gardens. Local singer sensation Phoebe Richards will also perform, along with Weston brass band. The Stable, in Wadham Street, will also be open that evening with an indoor Artisan Christmas Market, from 5pm to 8pm.
- See Portishead’s Christmas lights switched on, along the High Street on Monday 28 November. The event starts at 6.15pm and the lights are turned on at 6.45pm.
- Pick up a treat at the Clevedon Market Late Night Christmas Shopping event, from 3pm-7pm on Thursday 1 December, in Queens Square.
- Get your skates on for a festive ice rink is opening in Clevedon, from noon to 7pm on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 December, in Queens Square. Tickets are free but must be collected in advance from participating retailers (see website).
- Find some delicious local food and drink in time for Christmas at eat:Nailsea, along the High Street and Crown Glass Shopping Centre from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 3 December. There will also be a face painter, craft tents, circus skills workshops, balloon modellers, a cookery school and plenty of live music. eat:Weston will also take place on Sunday 11 December, from 10am to 4pm in the Winter Gardens.
- Villagers in Hutton will be setting up stalls in their own front gardens selling festive arts and crafts, bakes and makes during the Hutton Christmas Trail, from 10.30am on Saturday 3 December. Maps sold in Toots Café, which will be open selling refreshments. There will also be music and a Santa’s grotto.
- More than 20 stallholders will be selling their festive wares during the Christmas Market at Weston Museum, in Burlington Street, from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 3 December. Santa will be visiting between 10.30am and 12:30pm, and 1.30pm to 3.30pm for photos. Meeting Santa is free but does not include a present.
- Clevedon Marine Lake is presenting Light up the Lake on Saturday 3 December. North Somerset Samba Band will lead a lantern procession from Clevedon Pier at about 4.15pm to the lake, where there will be boating activities to watch (not join in). Darklyte Fire dancers will perform on the lake at 5pm.
- One of Portishead’s biggest events returns on Sunday 11 December. The Victorian Evening and Craft Fair will have an array of stalls, a fun fair, and a stage with live performances.
