Garden Organic is looking for new volunteers to train as Master Composters here in North Somerset and help spread the word about the benefits of composting to their friends, neighbours and local communities.
The next volunteer training day takes place on Thursday 2 October at Yeo Valley Organic Gardens in Blagdon.
Becoming a master composter is a fantastic opportunity to learn the essentials of composting, meet like-minded people, and join a growing network of volunteers making a real impact.
You’ll be helping others discover the benefits of composting, through chatting with neighbours, running a stall at a local event, giving a talk, or simply sharing tips online.
The minimum commitment is just two activities a year.
The benefits of composting:
- it cuts carbon by avoiding the emissions from transporting and processing garden waste
- is better for your garden – improving soil health, supporting biodiversity and helping plants thrive
- it protects peatlands, by reducing the demand for peat-based products
- it saves money – one compost bin can save about £60 a year in shop-bought compost, and
- it’s a wildlife haven, supporting everything from microbes to hedgehogs.
Free training is provided, along with Garden Organic membership and ongoing support.
Apply online by Friday 26 September for the October training day.
