Free day tickets are up for grabs on North Somerset’s bus network.

Local people living in North Somerset can enjoy unlimited travel for one day using a free West of England Day Ticket, usually costing £7.

All First Bus services across the region are included in the promotion, excluding the airport and special event services.

This initiative is part of our Bus Service Improvement Plan, which we’re delivering in partnership with the West of England Combined Authority to support bus travel within the community.

Claim your free day ticket by submitting your details on the First Bus website and download the First Bus app. The ticket voucher code is redeemable directly through the app until the end of September.

The offer is open until Monday 30 September but apply early to be in with a chance to get a code.

Bus roadshows near you

Pop-up bus promotion events are happening across North Somerset over the coming months.

Look out for our public transport team at Clevedon Charter Market on Thursday 5 September and eat:Weston on Saturday 23 November.

These events are an opportunity for local people to get information on our bus service improvement plan, bus routes, travel offers and more.

For details of future pop-up events, keep an eye on our Facebook page.

Service changes from next month

Changes are coming to some bus services next month following a review.

We work with commercial bus operators to review bus networks twice a year, based on passenger usage levels and community needs.

As a result, some changes are happening from Sunday 1 September .

These changes are designed to support the wider North Somerset bus network and help bus routes become commercially successful for operators to run.

We want our local communities to have a modern, efficient, reliable, and affordable public transport system for years to come. This will give more people the chance to take the bus for their commute, socialising or just stay connected.

We’re also upgrading our roads to make bus journeys quicker and more reliable, as well as working closely with bus operators on service changes.

Some bus services are currently subsidised by Bus Service Improvement Plan funding from central government, which ends in March 2025.

The bus fare cap will continue until at least the end of this year, so you can still get on the bus for just £2 for a single adult fare or £1 for a child.

View bus network maps and detailed timetables for individual bus services on the Travelwest website, which will be updated soon to reflect the upcoming changes.

Updated routes from Sunday 1 September are:

  • 1 - Sand Bay – Weston-super-Mare (via Kewstoke) and 20 Burnham-on-Sea to Weston (via Brean, Blagdon and Uphill): buses will run hourly, with the Sunday service finishing for the summer at the end of the October school holidays (the last Sunday of operation will be Sunday 3 November).
  • 6 - Worle Retail Park to Weston (via Mead Vale, Upper Bristol Road and Worle High Street): the final 6 bus service of the day will now be at 7.22pm from Weston. You’ll need to use the 7 evening service for later journeys between Weston and Worle.
  • 7 - Worle Retail Park to Locking Parklands (via Milton, Weston Town Centre and Weston General Hospital) Sunday frequency will reduce from every 30 minutes to every 40 minutes. The last bus Monday to Friday will now be at 10.49pm.
  • 9 - West Wick to Weston (via Worlebury and Flowerdown Retail Park): revised timings with an earlier start time of 9am, based on passenger requests.
  • 126 - Wells to Weston (via Cheddar, Winscombe, Hutton, Bleadon and Uphill): some timing changes to improve reliability and accommodate schedules for Weston College students.
  • 126 - Wells to Weston, X1 Bristol to Weston, X4 Bristol to Portishead and X5 Portishead to Weston: there’ll be some timing changes to improve reliability.
  • While there aren’t changes to the X9 service, there’s currently a road diversion in place which is currently planned until November due to major gas works taking place on the route.
  • Operator The Big Lemon will continue to run the X10 service from September onwards. From Sunday 1 September, the X10 route will be reinstated beyond Clevedon Triangle to Clevedon Tesco roundabout in both directions, serving Southern Way again and the Curzon Cinema. The timetable will also be amended to have a morning and afternoon journey timed specifically for South Gloucestershire and Stroud College’s Filton Campus.
