His Majesty The King will be crowned during a service at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May and we hope people will use the historic occasion as an opportunity to come together and celebrate.
The Coronation is both a symbolic, religious ceremony and the physical act of placing a crown on a monarch’s head.
Across North Somerset, 19 roads will be closed for street parties on the Saturday, as well as lots of organised events taking place in communities across the area.
Throughout the weekend, you're invited to share food with friends and neighbours during the Coronation Big Lunch. If a daytime event doesn't suit you, you may want to organise a 'lunar lunch' in the evening.
Then on Monday 8 May, the day of the extra bank holiday, you’re encouraged to lend a hand and help make a change in your local area by volunteering in The Big Help Out.
Download the app on Apple or Android to find recommended activities near you.
A host of local volunteering opportunities can also be found on the Voluntary Action North Somerset website.
Here’s a snapshot of some events taking place throughout North Somerset during the coronation weekend. You can also search for events on the national website.
Clevedon
Join family and friends on historic Clevedon Pier to commemorate the crowning of King Charles III.
Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust, with support from Clevedon Town Council, is hosting a full day and evening of celebrations between 11am and 10pm on Sunday 7 May.
Daytime entertainment (last entry 4pm) will include sea shanty group The Barnacle Buoys, performances by local children from Tillie’s School of Performing Arts, fun-loving Piratitude, and street poetry from Andrew Nicholls, The Typewriter Bloke, among others.
Entry to the pier is free during the day but tables for up to six people can be booked for up to five hours, between 11am and 4pm, for £30 per table. Food can be pre-ordered from the Pier’s Glass Box restaurant. Email glassbox@clevedonpier.com
Evening entry is ticket-only, costing £20 per person.
There will be live music from North Somerset rock ‘n’ roll band The Frogs, supported by jazz and blues band Lloyd Cook and Burns, and pop rock singer Mike Bess. The Glass Box restaurant will be serving takeaways.
A firework display is set for 10pm.
Kewstoke
Get your dancing shoes on for a special Coronation dance in Kewstoke on Saturday 6 May.
Cover bands will be providing live music from 7pm, in a marquee on the playing field.
Tickets cost £10 and are available from Sand Bay Chip Shop, The New Inn and The Pink Shop.
Free family fun can then be enjoyed on Sunday 7 May with a sports day, disco and sing song, from 1pm until 5pm at Kewstoke Village Hall.
Try your hand at traditional favourites, such as the sack race, egg and spoon, and three-legged race. There will also be a penalty shootout, inflatable obstacle course, and inflatable football pitch for juniors.
A variety of stalls featuring food, clothes, photography and crafts can then be found at the traditional village fete, from 1.30pm until 4pm on Monday 8 May at Kewstoke Village Hall.
Houses in the village will also be decorated in red, white and blue throughout the weekend.
Weston-super-Mare
Bring a blanket and enjoy a free communal picnic and entertainment to celebrate the Coronation in Weston-super-Mare’s Grove Park.
Music and entertainment will be performed on the bandstand, with arts and craft workshops and stalls.
The event, organised by the Friends of Grove Park, runs from 1pm to 5pm.
Libraries
Support the wonderful world we live in and help increase biodiversity by planting a special collection of wildflower seeds available free from our libraries.
Free packs of seeds can be collected (while stocks last) from local libraries from early next week as part of a Coronation initiative, Grow With Your Library. One pack per person.
We’ve partnered with other libraries in the south west and the National Wildflower Centre to offer these seeds, thanks to Arts Council England funding.
Head to your local library and #readtoyourseeds.
Other Coronation events may also be taking place in your local library. Visit our website for the full list of events or follow the team on Facebook or Twitter for updates.
