Walking is a great way to get more active, improve your physical and mental health, explore new places and have fun.
It’s simple, free and ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels.
To celebrate all things walking and encourage more people to give it go, North Somerset Walk Fest takes place this May for the fifth year running.
Lots of free activities and challenges are on offer to help you experience the benefits that walking brings, whether you join an organised group or build walking into your daily commute.
Feedback from last year showed that more than 80 per cent of participants felt Walk Fest encouraged them to walk more, or confirm they already walked enough.
There are lots of ways to get involved:
- Walk Fest Programme – find out what activities are happening every day. The programme is packed with hundreds of walks and events in and around North Somerset - including guided walks, walking sports and Health Walks. Visit our Better Health North Somerset website to download the programme from Tuesday 22 April.
- walk every day in May – challenge yourself to walk for as long as suits you, even if it’s just 10 minutes a day. Download a calendar from the Better Health website and track your progress.
- walking groups – check out local walking groups or start your own. Our Better Health team can offer training to get you started.
- walking routes – follow mapped routes across North Somerset, including accessible routes suitable for people who have limited mobility. Each route is up to six miles in distance.
- workplace walking challenge – rally your colleagues and challenge others to a Walking Challenge. Randomly allocated prizes are available for participation. For more information, email getactive@n-somerset.gov.uk.
- win – complete a short survey at the end of the month to be in with the chance of winning a £50 voucher from LovetoShop.
