An iconic 27-foot statue created from more than 100,000 knives and blades will be on show in Weston-super-Mare next month.

The Knife Angel, made from blades confiscated by the UK’s 43 police forces, will be in the Italian Gardens throughout May.

It was designed as a national monument against violence and aggression and is currently on tour to raise awareness of knife crime.

The official opening ceremony is at 4pm on Wednesday 1 May at the Italian Gardens. It’s free to attend and open to everybody.

To coincide with the Knife Angel’s visit, our Violence Reduction Partnership will be working with organisations and community partners throughout May to deliver a programme of events, including educational workshops, art installations, competitions and community awareness days.

We’re also asking for volunteers aged 18 and over to help out at a visitor information hub during the Knife Angel’s stay.

Shifts will be between 9am and 6pm every day, for two to two-and-a-half hours.

You’ll be supported by a professional during every shift and fully briefed before your first one.
