If you're in the area over the next few weeks, you'll see workers planting, putting up fencing and clearing some vegetation as we prepare the area ready for the main construction.
These environmental enabling works are expected to take place over the next few months.
We’re committed to the long-awaited bypass and are also making progress in exploring our next steps in finding a new contractor to take on the main build, following Alun Griffiths pulling out.
We’re confident in the quality of the design and what we can deliver and, by working closely with our partners at Homes England, we still hope to get spades in the ground this year.
Planning permission and additional funding for the long-awaited scheme was secured last year, and the compulsory purchase orders needed to build the bypass were secured in January.
The bypass is set to remove long-standing traffic congestion from Banwell and also includes miles of walking and cycling paths, as well as substantial bio-diversity net gain.
The road is key to unlocking future housing sites in North Somerset, which are vital in seizing opportunities presented by regional growth.
The bypass is funded through Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund and by North Somerset Council.
More details about a new contractor to take on the main build will be shared when ready.
In the meantime, more information about the project is available on our website.
