- Tonight (Friday 21 April) enjoy side-splitting performances, delicious food and drink, and help support local grassroots project The Stable Food Shop. Weston Comedy Village is a free pop-up comedy night taking place at six independent venues in Grove Village, Weston-super-Mare: the Black Cat, the Stage Door, Brit Bar, Loves, Blakehay Theatre and the Stable Games Room. Comperes start at 7.30pm at all venues and it’s advisable to get there early to secure a seat and order food. All entry is free but check out individual venues for reservations and menus.
- A packed calendar of productions can be seen at Weston’s newest performance space, Front Room Theatre, in Dolphin Square. Tomorrow (Saturday 22 April) see acts battle it out at Pride in Weston’s Got Talent. On Friday 28 April, enjoy a Shanty Sing-Around with The Steepholmers. On Tuesday 2 May, see unhinged puppetry for ages 14+ during Pixiematosis by The OBJECT Project. Celebrate the comedians of Weston-super-Mare and beyond during Weston-super-Laugh on Friday 5 May. - Discover creative talent by local people when the popular bi-annual North Somerset Arts Week returns this month. More than 200 local artists will be opening up their homes and studios, or gathering in shared venues, to show their latest work, from Friday 28 April to Monday 8 May. See a huge variety of contemporary and traditional art, from ceramics to textiles, painting to sculpture. There will be talks and workshops. Watch out for the distinctive pink flags leading you to more than 38 locations across North Somerset. Brochures are available from local shops and libraries. Standard opening times are 10am to 5pm but check the North Somerset arts website for each venue.
- Tasty treats from local producers will be on sale during the next eat:Weston food festival. Pick up some food and drink from independent suppliers, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 29 April, in the Italian Gardens.
- Enjoy free live music in Clevedon on Saturday 29 April. Enjoy fabulous acts, independent traders, and tasty food and drink. Visit Queen’s Square between 1pm and 7pm.
- Rail enthusiasts can see the famous Flying Scotsman call at Yatton Railway Station, on Sunday 30 April. The steam train is stopping at Yatton at 9.05am on its way from Bristol Temple Meads to Par in Cornwall as part of its centenary tour. Timings are approximate.
- A 24-hour row is taking place to help raise funds for Weston-super-Mare's new sea-rowing club. Weston's first Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing Club has launched as a charitable sporting organisation. On Tuesday 25 April it begins an eight-week crowdfunding campaign, supported by Olympic rowing legend James Cracknell, to help the club purchase its first gig (boat). The 24-hour row takes place from noon on Sunday 30 April to noon on Monday 1 May. Find out more and support the campaign on its Pilot Gig website or Facebook page.
- Enjoy a cruise along the Bristol Channel when the iconic Paddle Steamer Waverley returns to our area in June. The last passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world will be running excursions from Portishead, Clevedon and Weston between Friday June 2 and Saturday June 17.
