Do you want to vote and have your voice heard in the upcoming election?

On Thursday 6 May you’ll be able to have your say on who will be the new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for the Avon and Somerset area.

The role of the PCC is to be the voice of local people in policing and to hold the Chief Constable to account, and ensure an effective and efficient police service is delivered within their force area.

On the same day, by-elections are also taking place in the Portishead East ward for a seat on North Somerset Council and Portishead Town Council, and for Weston-in-Gordano Parish Council (provided sufficient number of candidates are validly nominated and contest the election).

To have your say, you must be registered to vote.

The deadline to register is midnight on Monday 19 April. It takes just five minutes to apply online.

You also have a range of choices of how to cast your ballot.

  • in person on the day – polling stations will have all safety precautions in place to meet the highest standards of public safety and democratic integrity. Poll cards have started going out to households this week.
  • by post – the deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April. Download, print and fill in an application form and then send the form back to North Somerset Council by email or post at Electoral Services, North Somerset Council, Town Hall, Walliscote Grove Road, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1UJ. You can also request the form is sent to you by post.
