Volunteers are needed to help inspire North Somerset children to stand up for the planet and become Wild World Heroes.

The Reading Agency has joined forces with the World Wildlife Fund for this year’s nature themed Summer Reading Challenge.

The annual scheme encourages children aged four to 11 to keep reading throughout the summer holidays and have fun visiting the library.

Volunteers are needed to help run the scheme in our libraries, by talking to children about the books they’ve read and handing out rewards.

So if you have a few hours to spare each week and are enthusiastic about encouraging children to enjoy reading, we’d love to hear from you.

The challenge runs from Saturday 10 July to Saturday 11 September and people aged 14 and over can volunteer.

Flexible volunteering sessions are available during the summer and full training will be provided. No previous experience of volunteering or working in a library is needed.

Training will all be done online to ensure everyone’s safety, and appropriate measures will be in place when the challenge starts in July.

If national coronavirus restrictions change at any time, the role may be withdrawn.

Apply online, email library.volunteers@n-somerset.gov.uk or call 01275 888 864.

The closing date for applications is Monday 14 June.
