Walking around our local neighbourhoods became a daily habit for many during the pandemic and it continues to be a great way to get some exercise.

National Walking Month takes place next month and our Go4Life team is encouraging people to get out on foot and explore walking routes right from their own front door.

Could you challenge yourself to walk a mile or more every day in May?

A mile is about 2,000 steps and takes about 20 minutes. So why not squeeze in a lunchtime stroll or after-work saunter to see your step tally increase quickly?

Download the walking calendar to keep track of your progress or download the NHS Active 10 app for added motivation.

Keep an eye on the Facebook page for suggested routes, while several cafes across North Somerset will be sharing copies of local walks to help customers explore the area.

Information about existing walking groups will be provided, as well as trying to create new groups to cater for different people’s needs.

Tips and advice on walking will also be posted throughout the month, from walking with children to trying out a walking app.

And if you’ve walked more during the pandemic, the team would love to share your inspirational stories too.

The TravelWest active travel team will be at the eat:Clevedon food and drink festival on Saturday 15 May, so visit the stall to pick up some local walking maps or get advice.
